This work explores the classic Mother and Child theme through a contemporary lens. With a focus on the hands and the importance of touch, the black and white drawing here is achieved using a handwritten text technique. Varying densities of words describe the shape, shadow and light of the figures. The written narrative can be likened to a genetic coding weaved throughout, composed by the artist in the form of a letter from a parent to their new child. The soft orange Day Lillies in the background take on the symbolism of innocence and devotion.
